Eleanor V. Johnson, age 97, of Green Bay, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017. Elly was born March 26, 1920 in Menominee, MI to Frank and Erna (Johnson) Foerster. She attended Anston Grade School and graduated from Green Bay East High in 1938.
Eleanor married Bernard "Pete" Johnson, February 19, 1944 at Grace Lutheran Church, Green Bay. He preceded her in death, November 15, 1987.
Her first job was in the office of Bosses News Depot. After various jobs in the 1950's she started at Gauthier Construction which is where she retired from in 1980. That is when she and Pete retired to Crooked Lake. Later, after Pete's death, she became Town Treasurer. Due to illness, she moved to Woodside Lutheran Home, Green Bay in 2000 to be near her children.
Elly always loved sports, especially swimming, bowling and shooting pool. She always loved to dance, winning a waltz contest when she was 20 years old.
Survivors include her children: Dennis (the late Sue) Johnson, Pamela (the late James) Kornaus, Robin (Steve) Dotson of Kentucky. She is further survived by her grandsons: Jeff (Katie) Johnson, Nick Kornaus, Jessie and Britton Dotson; 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Nora Johnson and brother-in-law, Robert (Shirley) Johnson. She is further survived by her sister, Marian's children: Mary Kay (Karl) Vanderveren, Mike (Mary) Thyes, Patsy (Ken) Verheyden and their children; many nieces and nephews on the Johnson side, especially Steve (Mary)Johnson and John (Vicky) Johnson and by all her friends at Woodside.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lyle Johnson; her only sister, Marian (Clayton) Thyes as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay), Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Pastor Don Behrendt of Peace Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Elly's name.
