Elder Y. "José" Melgar, age 42, of Green Bay, was taken from us unexpectedly, May 9, 2020. He was born August 7, 1977 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, son of the late Ruben Romero and Francisca Melgar.
Elder moved to the United States in 2001. He began working for American Foods Group in 2001, starting as a "blue hat" and advancing to a "red hat" or lead supervisor. Elder met his wife, Sheri Riegert in 2004. They welcomed their first daughter, Haley in 2005 and were married in 2006. The couple was blessed with 2 more children, Gavin and Isabella.
Elder was a good teacher and was sure to always start his day in prayer. His faith in God was very important to him. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. José took great pride in his appearance and he was known for always smelling so good. He made sure his car was always clean and looking good, as well. He was a talented sportsman and also enjoyed working out in his yard. Elder was an extremely generous man and always put others before himself. He was always available to talk and share his wisdom and advice. He also was known to have a healthy appetite and loved to eat. He was a hard worker and an amazing provider for his family. His children were his pride and joy. Elder was very involved in his childrens' lives and was always playing with them and learning new ways of spending time with his family.
Elder is survived by his wife, Sheri; his 3 children: Haley, Gavin and Isabella; siblings: Esther (Marvin), Ilma, Ruben and Luis; father and mother-in-law, Michael and Kim Riegert; sister-in-law, Michelle (Gregg) Colwell and their children: Gregg Jr., Colt and Caroline; his special dog, Toby; his beloved bird, Katie and many close friends, especially Christian and Yany Rivas.
In addition to his parents, Elder is preceded in death by his brothers, José and Marcos.
Private services will be held by Elder's family.
Elder will be dearly missed by his coworkers, friends, especially his wife, children and in-laws.
