Elaine Helen (Van Boxtel) Vanderhoof passed peacefully on March 26, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Elaine was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on December 6, 1944, to the late John and Ann (Van Schyndel) Van Boxtel.
She is survived by her family: Douglas H. (Joy) Vanderhoof, and their children: William M. Vanderhoof, Johnathan D. Vanderhoof, and Victoria J. Vanderhoof; Steven H. (Carol) Vanderhoof and their children and grandchildren: Alicia (Jeff) Kreckel, Kalista, Karter and Felix, Alexander Vanderhoof (fiancé Hailee) and Cameron Vanderhoof; and Anita H. (Wayne) Resch, their daughter, Karissa E. Resch and dear friend, Vladimir D. Torres, granddaughter, Celeste M. (Page) Resch, and great-granddaughter, Aurelia J. Resch-Soquet.
Elaine was a lifelong learner filled with independent determination. She was extremely proud of her diverse professional background and willingness to try anything. Throughout her life, she was a farmer, a welder, a licensed realtor, a salesperson, a night auditor for a local hotel, and dearest to her heart - she was a writer.
Elaine loved to tell stories, find the humor in situations, laugh out-loud, sing, crochet, knit, watch movies, and walk outside in the fresh air. She had a gift for re-purposing and treasuring items many would have discarded. Elaine felt a deep connection to Door County and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Elaine loved her family. She was quick to tell people of her shared birthday with her granddaughter, Karissa. She had endless stories about her children and family that she proudly told anyone. She felt blessed by the re-connection later in life with her sister, Bonita Ness, and found great joy from their relationship.
Elaine’s concluding wishes are for simplicity and privacy. In lieu of gifts, flowers or donations, please tell a story, laugh loudly and often, sing a song that lifts your spirit, tell the people you love that you love them, and share a hug “from the heart”.
