Elaine (Schmelter) Cayo, age 83, of Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 with her family at her side. She was born May 2, 1934 in De Pere, daughter of the late Arthur and Leola (Ferrington) Schmelter and was a graduate of West De Pere High School.
Elaine worked as a cook at several area restaurants including the Mariner, Town & Country and The Main Street Restaurant. She was an excellent cook and her son especially remembers her chicken and dumplings soup. She also worked at WOS in billing and later was promoted to manager.
Elaine was an avid bowler and passed on her passion for the sport to her son, Jeff as well as her many "bowling sons" which included buddies that Jeff bowled with. She was an animal lover and loved to cheer on her Packers, Brewers and any bowling event on T.V. She will be remembered for her giving heart and her spunky sense of humor. First and foremost, Elaine was a loving mom, daughter and friend of many.
Elaine is survived by her son, Jeff (Rebecca) Cayo; brother-in-law, Larry Suda; sister-in-law, Nona Schmelter and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alan and Ivan Schmelter and sisters, Audrey (Ray "Tex") Misco and Nancy Suda.
Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1 to 3 PM. There will be a reception in Elaine's honor at THE RITE PLACE (1580 Bellevue St., Green Bay) immediately following the visitation. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Elaine's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of Ledgeview and Santa Maria Nursing Homes as well as the emergency and 4th floor staffs at Bellin Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and support.
