Edward Francis Mathison, 81, of De Pere, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023 at The Courtyard at Bellevue surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 20, 1942 to Edward and Clara (DeBott) Mathison in Green Bay. He attended Premontre High School and graduated from West High School in 1960. His claim to fame was working his first job at Paul's Standard Station. There he had the privilege of servicing many Packer players and coaches cars. In 1961 he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Vancouver until 1965. He served in the South East in the Vietnam War. Upon his release in San Diego, CA, he purchased a 1958 Corvette and drove back to Wisconsin. Nine months later, he married the love of his life, Ellen Marks. Edward and Ellen lived in De Pere, where they raised two children.
He was a very passionate Packers and Brewers fan and loved his model trains. He took great pride in his garage, cars, and yard. There was never a family gathering without a ping pong tournament. Most of all, he treasured his family, especially his grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ellen; son Mitchell (Allison) Mathison, daughter, Mary (Peter) Duecker; three grandchildren: Grace (Daniel) Stonebraker, Olivia Mathison, and Jake Mathison. He is further survived by other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Marion (William) Bidwell, Ruth (Lee) Grages, and Shirley Gay; and parents-in-law, Reuben (Bette) Marks.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 9:00 am until 10:30am at St. Willebrord Parish (209 S Adams St, Green Bay, WI) with Mass to follow at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to give donations to dementia research.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the caregivers at The Courtyard at Bellevue and Unity Hospice, especially Miranda and Kathy, for their wonderful care, comfort, and support to Edward and his family.
