Dr. Mercado Reyes, M.D.

June 14, 1927 — February 19, 2018

Metodio M. Reyes, M.D., age 90, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018. He was born June 14, 1927, in the city of Ibaan, Batangas Province, in the Republic of the Philippines.

Metodio graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, with a medical degree in 1956. He came to the U.S. in 1958 and started his internship and residency at South Community Hospital in Chicago, IL. After obtaining his medical license in 1966 and working at Elgin Mental Hospital, he then worked at the VA Hospital in Tomah, WI for a year, then practiced medicine for a year in Arcadia, WI. In 1970, he and his family moved to Gillett, WI, to start his family practice, where he continued to work for 15 years. In 1987, he and his family moved to Green Bay, WI where he was employed by the State of Wisconsin as a physician at the Green Bay Correctional Institution until his retirement in 2000.

Metodio married Resurreccion Tengasantos, February 14, 1962 and they shared 56 loving years of marriage and were blessed with 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Metodio and his wife have been faithful members of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Parish for 31 years.

The art of practicing medicine was a true calling for Metodio. His love of science combined perfectly with his love of mankind. Metodio could converse with anyone and was well-loved for his friendly and easy-going manner, as well as his compassion for all.

Since his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, handiwork, and listening to classical music. He also enjoyed his annual return to the Philippines to visit with old friends and family. Metodio has been a member of the American Medical Association and the Academy of Family Practice, both organizations in which he was very active. He and his wife, Resurreccion, have enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad, including pilgrimages to Lourdes, Fatima, the Vatican, and the Holy Land. His two grandchildren and many furry grandpets added a great deal of love and happiness to his days.

Metodio is survived by his wife, Resurreccion; his children: Karen Reyes Konz, Patrick Reyes (and wife, Randi Lass Reyes), and Beverly Reyes; his grandchildren, Annemarie and Michael Konz; and his sisters, Concepcion and Davita. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Patricio; his mother, Marquita; his brothers, Jose and Gerardo; and his sister, Leonila.
