Uncle of Jeremy and Michael Turrittin and Joseph Johnston. He was also survived by special cousins, and numerous other family members, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Janet Turrittin, his brother, Mark Turrittin, and his special friend, Lisa Vande Hei.
Born in Milwaukee on July 24, 1959. He lived in Jackson where he worked at a horse farm and developed his life long love of animals. He went to school in Germantown. As a senior in high school in 1977, he then moved to Green Bay where he met his high school sweet heart, Cindy. Doug was an avid reader. It wasn't unusual to find him engrossed by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. He could read a Stephen King novel in a few sittings and owned every book that he wrote. Some of his greatest passions were shooting guns and riding his 1987 Harley Softail and never missed the annual Ice Run Rides on New Year's Day. Spending time with family and friends was important, but enjoying the peace and serenity of the great outdoors at the family cabin on Cranberry Lake in Eagle River was his "happy place".
Doug was employed as a sign installer for over 20 years. He was philosophical and had an analytical and inquisitive mind. He loved to take things apart and could repair almost everything. Doug was the "jack of all trades". Billboard installation afforded him to travel all over the country. He earned several professional certificates in his career. Prior to working in advertising, he spent several years working on Wenz's Farm and in his final few days, this was the memory that he was most fond of. In life, his generosity knew no bounds, and he never met a stranger. Doug worked hard, played hard, and as a result lived hard, but he never failed at giving his best and giving his all. We will all feel the physical loss of Doug, but in his words, his "energy will go on".
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical and nursing staff of Med/Surg and ICU at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 1 pm - 3 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay, WI) with a sharing of memories to take place at 3 pm.
