Dorothy Mae Seroogy, 93, West De Pere, passed away peacefully Monday morning, February 15, 2021. The daughter of William and Lucille (Ferrington) Schmelter was born on May 14, 1927 in Greenleaf.
Dorothy attended grade school in Greenleaf, also helping her dad clean and maintain that same school. She graduated from East De Pere High School Class of 1944. On August 6, 1947 she married Marvin Seroogy at Old St. Joseph Church in West De Pere where they then lived and raised their family. They were married 49 years. Marvin passed away on November 27, 1996. Dorothy worked outside the home for Bill and Mary McFadzen at McFadzen's/The Mariner Supper Club on Riverside Drive in Green Bay. She then took a job as custodial maintenance for the Ashwaubenon School District. She was placed at Valley View Grade School, where she loved and was loved by all the little school children and staff, until her retirement in June 1990.
Mom took great pride in her family and her home. She was a wonderful caregiver to many especially Marvin and her mother Lucille. Mom was an amazing cook and always made the holidays, well every day, special. Every October she and her brother Bob and his family would get together and make a 20 gallon crock of sauerkraut using the tools handmade by their father. Doty, as her friends called her, loved to play cards and bowl and was treasurer of her bowling league at The Kegler Klub for many years. She was also a beautiful quilter making many beautiful pieces stitching all by hand. She was a member of the quilting club at ADRC. She showed tremendous patience and love as she stitched and re-stitched until she felt it was just right. Mom was happy and content to stay close to home. The furthest she traveled, by car, was back and forth to Madison to visit her sister Betty and family. In 1997 we talked her into a trip to Orlando Florida/Disneyworld with her niece and their family. This was her first time out of Wisconsin and on an airplane. When asked if she enjoyed it her answer was a resounding yes, followed by her signature answer, "but once is enough"!
Doty is survived by her children: Kathy Doney, Mark Seroogy and Patty (Scott) VanDenHeuvel; her grandchildren: Shanan (Bob) Aerts, Tricia Doney and Kimm (Dan) Weber; her great-grandchildren: Danielle (Andy) Orleans, Makenzie Bayerl, Justin Doney and Vivian Mae Weber her newest of 4 months and her great-great granddaughter, Sienna Doney Kaisershot. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Nancy (Schmelter) Titel and Iris Seroogy along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; sister, Betty (Floyd) Doering; her brothers, Bob and Billy (Virginia) Schmelter; Marvin's parents, Otto and Blanche Seroogy and her sisters and brothers-in-law: Murial, "Miz", (Bob) Piton and Bernie Seroogy.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family (1305 Lourdes Ave., De Pere, WI), Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 1 to 2:30 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM. Please be prepared to wear a facial covering and practice all mandated safety protocols. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park Mausoleum.
