Dorothy Mae (Plettner) Kerwin, 89, of Green Bay passed away on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2012. Born on July 21, 1923 to Lawrence and Vivian Plettner, Dot, a lifelong resident of Green Bay married John Kerwin on July 4, 1946 and together raised their nine children. Dot worked as a telephone operator before she married and a school bus driver while she raised her family. She then went on to have a rewarding career as a case assistant and home health aide for Bellin Hospital where she left a lasting impression on many lives. Dot believed in being actively involved in her community. She was involved with The League of Women Voters and The Bridge, as well as other community organizations along with being very active in her church, serving on the parish council, school board and singing in the church choir. Dot loved parties and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid bridge player and always looked forward to spending time with her "Bridge Club". She also dispensed loving advice to her children and grandchildren on life, love and giving of one's self.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband and best friend, John Kerwin; sister, Shirlee Steinbrecher; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Kerwin. She is survived by her two siblings, Janice Frawley and Larry (Nancy) Plettner; brother-in-law, William F. (Joyce) Kerwin; children, Kay Lefevre, Laurie (Albert) Thrasher, Patrick (Lois), Tim (Lucille) Lee, Jill (Mark Derenne), Quinn (Cathy), Ross (Cindy) and Brian (Amy). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Adam Lefevre, Javier (Krissy) Alaniz, Rachel (Victor) Nemchenok, Amanda (Zac) Ehlers, Ama and Fulani Thrasher, Colin, Ian and Meghan Kerwin and Melissa Kerwin; and three great grandchildren, Adrian Ehlers and Aya and Kahlo Alaniz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Monday, November 26, 2012 at St Mary of the Angels Parish, 645 S. Irwin Ave., Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 am at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Dot's name.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bellin Hospital, Unity Hospice, Alpha Senior Concepts and Interim Health Care for the kind and compassionate care provided to Dot during her extended illness and at the end of her life.
The family would also like to express heartfelt thanks to Dot's two care givers, Darcie Barbie and Luann Gwidt for the loving care they gave Dot in her last years.
