Doris Kathleen Branshaw, passed away at age 90, on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. She was born on January 13, 1923, in Superior, WI, to Algar Rebecca Yanda & Wesley Yanda. She graduated from Central High in Superior with the class of 1940. Following graduation, she worked in Milwaukee, WI, for the Wisconsin Telephone Company. On November 24, 1942, Doris married Gerald Branshaw. During WWII, Doris worked at Walter Butler Shipyards. Following the war, the couple moved to Stevens Point, WI. In 1952, they moved to Green Bay, WI, where she resided until December 2005. Gerald preceded Doris in death on July 10, 2003.
Doris worked as a school secretary at Preble High School in Green Bay for 23 years until her retirement in 1988. She taught calligraphy classes for several years at the old Green Bay Vocational School and also lettered in her distinctive hand many certificates, diplomas, and posters for various church, school and community events. She volunteered at First United Methodist Church in Green Bay, where she had been a member since 1952. She will be remembered as a friend, colleague, and mom that exuded hospitality, love, and kindness. Doris was a beautiful person who loved people and could light up a room with her smile. She enjoyed music, art, and playing the piano. At Christmas time she delighted friends with wonderful gifts of baked goods, rosettes, sandbakkels and cardamom bread.
Doris is survived by her children, Carol (Robert) Barnes, Wheaton, IL; Susan (Michael) Stoehr, River Hills, WI; and Dean Branshaw, Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Joan Ciatti & Eleanor Paul; seven grandchildren, Heather (David) McGraw, Dr. Jonathan (Danielle) Stoehr, Laurelanne (Scott) Fenoglio, Keirsten (Lael) Campbell, Jered (Nobuko) Stoehr, Karyn (Collin) Bryant, and Philip Stoehr; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
Family and friends may call Sunday, April 28, 2013, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. Visitation will continue from 9:30am until 11:00am on Monday, April 29, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St., Green Bay. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00am at the church on Monday with Revs. Grace Imathiu and Dave Wilkinson officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Mausoleum.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Joyce Bell, Dorothy Trice, and Pat Gutzmer for their exceptional caring and devotion to Doris in her last years during her residence at Laurel Oaks in Glendale, WI, also, to Horizon Hospice at Columbia/St. Mary's.
