Donald W. Hrubesky, 77, Green Bay, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, June 23, 2014. He was born October 9, 1936, in Green Bay to the late George and Agnes (Piaskowski) Hrubesky. Here's his story.
Don Hrubesky was no ordinary man. And the first sign of Don's unique qualities is portrayed by his nickname "DINGO". At nine months old his Dad named him after the "dingo", a free-ranging, wolf-like dog found mainly in Australia.
You see, Dingo was not "free ranging" at all. He was a fine family man that stuck close to home. He married Beverly Perret Hrubesky on June 21st, 1958.
Together they raised four children, and some might say, an army of neighborhood castoffs.
Dingo was an educated man. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1954. Graduated from St. Norbert College in 58'. Then earned his PHD in English Literature from Kansas State University.
Dingo was a teacher. Mentoring students at Premontre High School in 1958, moving up to UWGB in the late sixties, and then the University Wisconsin Fox Valley, where he was recognized as "teacher of the year" numerous times until his retirement.
Dingo was an athlete - a tenacious defender in the paint, a boxer with a swift right hook, a scrambling quarterback with a slingshot arm, and a college baseball player, who taught his son and grandson how to throw the "knuckle ball".
Dingo was a poet. His passion for teaching was only surpassed by his passion to write. He was editor of Fox Cry, a college publication. He wrote poems about his father and mother, home, childhood, favorite sports, best friends and dreams. In his eloquent words…you'll find his life.
Dingo was a Dad. A loving father that embraced life's simple pleasures-camping, fishing, watching a Cubs' or Packers' game, playing cards-and possibly doing all of those while drinking an ice-cold beer. We'll miss you
