Donald "Don" L. Ritter, age 93, of Green Bay, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017. He was born October 17, 1923, son of the late Arthur "Butch" and Cecelia (Steevo) Ritter and was a 1941 graduate of Green Bay East High School.
Don felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the destroyer USS Richard P. Leary as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don was employed by Georgia Pacific, formerly Northern Paper Mill for over 40 years.
Donald married Jean Munson, January 9, 1946 and together they shared 50 years of marriage before she passed away in 1996.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting. He passed his love of the outdoors to his son, John. He also loved to cheer on the Packers and the Brewers.
Donald is survived by his 4 children: Amy (William) Keane, Julie (Martin) Thiel, Jenny (Kim) Selissen and John Ritter and 4 grandchildren: April (Brian) Bongle, Alexander Thiel, Claire Thiel and Emily Selissen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; an infant grandson; all of his siblings and special friend, Fern Schenkelberg.
Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 4 to 5:45 PM. A military honors ceremony will be held at 6 PM.
