Dennis J. De Groot, age 67, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born in Green Bay, December 5, 1955, son of the late Elmer and Lucille (Smits) De Groot.
Dennis attended Denmark High School. He was married to Renee Hill for 18 years-a marriage blessed with 3 children. Later, he spent over 20 years with Kristine Hart, until she preceded him in death. He worked as a maintenance technician at various foundries in the area, the last being Arrowcast, Shawano, WI. He retired from Arrowcast when his health no longer allowed him to work.
Dennis, also known as "Animal," was a passionate Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and shared his love of the outdoors with his family. Described as foxy-wise and cunning, he always had a smart remark for everyone. Dennis had a kind and generous heart-always placing others before himself. He was a sincere friend, a brother to many and a talented handy man and was willing to help anyone in need. His greatest joy was being a dad and grandpa.
Dennis is survived by his 3 sons: Jason, Beau and Clint (Tabitha) De Groot; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 5 siblings: Bonnie Johnston, Joe (Sharon) De Groot, sister-in-law, Carolyn De Groot, Kathy (Bill) Enz, Jerry (Sharon) De Groot and Lynn De Groot-Oestrich. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, close friends and his 4 furry friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his love of over 20 years, Kristine Hart, sister, Donna De Groot, a brother, Bob De Groot and brothers-in-law, Happy Johnston and Bob Oestrich.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 1 to 3 PM. A celebration of life will follow at 3 PM. Please come prepared to share your favorite memory of Dennis. A farewell ride to his house in Shawano will take place following services at the funeral home.
