Dennis Marvin "Jake" Basten passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 with his loving family at his side. He was born September 7, 1948 in Green Bay to the late Marvin and Catherine (Jahnke).
After graduating from Preble High School in 1966, he was inducted in the US Army, serving time in Korea. Dennis was employed at Green & Gold Concrete for 35 years.
On February 1, 1969 he married Valerie VanDoorn at Holy Cross Church, Bay Settlement. Together they had 2 children, daughter & son. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at his cottage in Lakewood, making lifetime memories. He looked forward to deer hunting every year to spend time with his son DJ, brother Mike, nephew Mike Jr., grandson Ryan, and especially his BFF (Ron, his brother-in-law), and all the other guys at deer camp. He loved going to his daughter Brenda's farm, and always joked he needed a "passport" to get to Abrams! Dennis also enjoyed the yearly family vacations with his immediate family and at the casino with Michelle & Tom.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Valerie, his children Brenda (Kevin) Seidl (Abrams), DJ (Heidi Capelle), 6 grandchildren, Savanha, Owen, Kenadee, Kloeigh, Rachael, & Ryan, and his special friend "Cash". The rest of the survivors include his siblings: Marvin (Kathy) Basten, Mike Sr (friend Cindy), Emma (John) Hrabik, Mary (Kelly) Bresnahan, brother-in-law Fred Zittlow, BFF Ron & Linda Van Doorn, sister-in-law Dianne, many nieces & nephews: Ginny, Randy, Dan, Michelle, Tom, Chris, Tim, Heather, Lisa, Mike Jr., Jody, Debbie, John, Becky, Adam, and Jessica.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sisters: Carole Zittlow, Kathy Basten, brother John & Darrell Basten, sister-in-law, Colleen Basten and nephew JJ.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19th from 4 PM - 7 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay.
