David William West of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, passed away at Two Rivers Aurora Medical Center on March 1, 2025, under the care of Hospice, after a long battle with addiction and associated health issues.
David was born in Waupun, Wisconsin on October 21, 1961 to Robert F and Helen L (Rynes) West. He attended Washington Elementary and Waupun High School, graduating in 1979, and later studied Water & Wastewater Engineering and Supervisory Management at Moraine Park Technical College, graduating in 1989. David was a big man with a big voice and an even bigger personality! He loved the great outdoors, admired Native American culture and spiritual traditions, and, in later years, even adopted the nickname Bear. David spent endless hours hiking the shoreline of Lake Michigan looking for unique stones, fossils and driftwood from which he created whimsical cartoon-character sculptures.
In 1981, David married Colleen Buteyn and from that marriage, the family was blessed with the birth of Jill Marie.
David married Ann Spanbauer in 1988 and to that union were born Alicia Anne and Erik Robert. David’s greatest contribution to the world and the biggest source of pride in his life were his three children!
David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen West, sister Connie West, and sister Joye (Lauren) Lemke. He is survived by siblings Robert (Judy) West of Waupun, Suzanne (Ed) Constantini of Houlton, WI, Zona (Jon) Wagar of Valley City, ND, and Mary Hope West of Roseville, MN, his children Jill (Lance) Moede, Alicia (Brian) Yohn, both of Waupun, and son Erik (Britta) West of Plymouth, Wisconsin, seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of David’s life is being planned for early summer on the shore of Lake Michigan.
