David "Dave" L. Van Straten, 77, passed away July 15, 2022 at Meadowbrook Nursing Facility in Oconto Falls, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born August 18, 1944 in Green Bay to Norbert and Anna Marie (Aerts) Van Straten. He was the youngest of seven children.
Dave worked construction his entire adult life. For many of those years he owned and operated a roofing company.
When Dave wasn't working, he enjoyed deer hunting; but, his passion was fishing. He was known as "Perch Man Dave," with his license plate reading, "Perch 1." After retirement, he enjoyed going on bus trips to Northstar Casino with his lady friend, Rena King, as well as playing 31 with Rena and friends.
Dave is survived by his daughters, Shelley Nelson of Sheboygan and Deb Van Straten of Sheboygan Falls; his grandsons, Evan (Jenny) Nelson and Cole Nelson. His son-in-law Dean Nelson. His brother Jim (Nancy) Van Straten. He is also survived by his longtime lady friend, Rena King and her family: daughters, Annette (Dave Masephol) King and Lisa (Mike) Duff; grandchildren: Raquel (Jordan) Fisher, Michael Duff, and Liv Duff; great-grandchildren, Jillian and Claire Fisher. His very special buddies: Brian Bergner, Mike Hock and Jake Brabant; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Also, let us not forget, his best furry and fierce buddy, Benny, who brought Dave so much joy with his visits during Dave's illness.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Adrian (Helen), Robert (Norma), Gary (Sharon); sister, Nancy (Donald) Guns; and infant sister, Sharon.
