Daniel Joseph Mackin passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021 after struggling with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a form of FrontoTemporal Degeneration (FTD), for several years. If you could guess who would get a serious disease, you would not have predicted Dan. He was very athletic, ate healthy foods, and had a positive attitude. Dan's disease was very rare. He was fortunate to have it diagnosed correctly, early in its progress. As a final gift, Dan donated his brain to the University of Maryland, Baltimore to further the research and knowledge surrounding this rare condition in the hope of helping others.
He was born in Green Bay, WI to John (Jack) and Marion "Marnie" (Dorschel) Mackin on June 15, 1961. Dan graduated from Abbot Pennings High School. He earned an Associate Degree in Structural Engineering at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) in 1981. Dan graduated from St. Norbert College in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration.
He established Ever-Green Landscape Management in 1996 and operated it for 22 years. His knowledge and his skill nurtured many plants and lawns to life.
Dan enjoyed being outside, camping, golfing and playing tennis. He was a member of the Green Bay Curling Club. He ran the Bellin Run for 20 years, the last 2 in his wheelchair, as well as a few marathons. He progressed to triathlons, and took first place in several triathlons for his age group. He enjoyed music, attending concerts and traveling. Dan was a lifelong fan of the Packers, UWGB Phoenix Basketball, and the Milwaukee Bucks.
