Daniel L. "Dan" Calawerts, age 87, a lifelong resident of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 17,1936, son of the late Henry and Lucille (Phillips) Calawerts.
Dan was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, Class of 1954. He married Rosalie Hacker, February 15, 1958. Dan and Rosalie shared 65 years of marriage and were blessed with 5 children. The majority of his career was spent working for Hougard Construction, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Dan, or "Cubby", as he was also known, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a talented softball player and had the opportunity to coach his own childrens' baseball and hockey teams. Cubby was an all around sports fanatic and loved cheering on the Packers and Brewers. He loved to stay active and often rode his bike to work. Many fond memories were made at the family cottage in Lakewood. Dan and Rosalie were fortunate to travel extensively, both together and with their family. The most memorable trip was the family trip to Disney.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his 5 children: Larry (Sheri) Calawerts, Toni (Denis) Toonen, Bob Calawerts, Kathy (Lowell) Heise and Jeff (Vicky) Calawerts; 9 grandchildren: Leah (Jake) Lesser and Lauren (Jesse) Peot, Amanda (special friend, Buddy Rose) Toonen and Kali (fiancé, Derek Clark) Toonen, Lance Calawerts, Cameron (special friend, Amber Ronsman) Heise and Wyatt (special friend, Lydia Jones) Heise, Wesley and Vince Calawerts; 5 great-grandchildren (and one on the way!): Viviana, Rhett and Levi Peot, Willow Lesser and Mikel Rose. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Robert (Jean) Hacker, sisters-in-law, Ida Laubenstein and Mitzy Hacker, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends, Mike and Linda Cole, Tom and Lynn Wazrunek, and Alex Steffel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce (Bob) Gatske, a brother, William (Norma) Calawerts, a grandson, Daniel Heise, father and mother-in-law, Walter and Dorothy Hacker-Haslow and a brothers-in-law, Walter Hacker and Alan Laubenstein.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish (2597 Glendale Ave., Green Bay, WI), Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 9:30 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM.
