Daniel Joseph "Nuttman" Alvey

Daniel Joseph "Nuttman" Alvey passed away peacefully at home June 5, 2024.

Dan was born November 1, 1953 in Kankakee, IL to parents Howard and Mary (Mazza) Alvey. He grew up in a large extended Italian family with brothers, sisters, uncles who were like brothers, and nieces who were like sisters. He attended Central High School in Champaign, IL, was enlisted in the US Army from 1973-1976, and eventually moved to Green Bay in 1981 where he attended the university and met Kari Destiche, his future wife.

His service in the Army predominantly involved transporting missiles in Germany, where he earned a Safety award and National Defense Service medal. It was in the Army that he developed an affinity for politics. He carried that passion to his political science studies at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, where he was the president of the Vets' Club and advocated for change on campus.

Dan and Kari were married May 27, 1989 and celebrated their wedding anniversary just prior to Dan's passing. Over the past 35 years, their family grew with the addition of their two kids, Scott and Matt, and expanded further to include daughters-in-law and grandchildren. The couple began their family in their first house on Redwood Drive. This became the neighborhood hangout for the better part of two decades, where an open garage door signaled that Dan had the big-screen TV fired up, cold beer in the fridge, and warm conversation open to everyone who wandered into "the Fort".

When he wasn't in the Fort, Dan was likely to be found at Tucker Inn or Lenny's, and later Fuzzy's/TNT. He never met a shot he wouldn't take, be it at the tavern or on the golf course. He golfed at all the local courses and enjoyed traveling with golf buddies on their annual spring trips to Carbondale, IL. He loved playing euchre, especially whenever Alveys gathered, and organized many pub cribbage tournaments over the years. While he enjoyed socializing and card games, nothing filled his time like reading; Dan kept up with all the local papers and always carried a book with him--this may be what made him a whiz at popping off Jeopardy answers.

Dan is survived by wife Kari Alvey; sons Scott (Stephanie) Alvey and Matthew (Mellissa) Alvey; grandchildren McKenzie, Mason, and Everson; siblings Carol (Larry) Clapp, Mike (Joanie) Alvey, David (Vicki) Alvey, Brenda (Jobee) Zupec; mother-in-law Dianne Destiche, siblings-in-law Dale Barnes, Kurt (Lisa) Destiche, Kim (Dave Anderson) Destiche, Lynn (Bill) Spice, David (Carmen Olena) Destiche; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by father Howard Alvey, mother Mary Koivisto (formerly Alvey), step-father William Koivisto, father-in-law James Destiche; siblings Sharon Bennett, Theresa Barnes, Steven Alvey; and many close friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Green Bay, WI on Friday, June 14, 2024 with visitation at 1:00 PM until a 4:00 PM service with military honors. Interment Monday, June 17, 2024 at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in Green Bay, WI; friends and family will gather later for a memorial round-robin beginning at 2:00 PM at Lenny's Tap, and TNT to follow.
