Cynthia L. Johnston, age 70, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday August 16, 2020 surrounded by her family at her residence. She was born on June 12, 1950 in Manitowoc the daughter of the late Clayton and Pearl (Ligman) Mitcheltree. Cindy was united in married to Michael E. Ackley on December 3, 1966, their marriage was blessed with three children. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1977. She then married Aaron Johnston, and they spent many happy years raising their children together. Cindy graduated from Southeastern Beauty College in Georgia, and owned and operated a salon out of her home for many years. She was also employed as a CNA caregiver in Manitowoc, until her health declined. Cindy was blessed with an eye for decorating and made the world around her as beautiful as she was. She was very involved at Hope Community Church, and was a member of ladies Bible study group and volunteered with the cleaning of the facility. Cindy loved shopping, antiquing, traveling, and country music festivals. She was a generous person and treasured the time she spent with her family.
Cindy is survived by the love of her life, Aaron Johnston, three children: Michael C. (Michelle) Ackley, Charles J. (Jean Martin) Ackley, and Candice A. Ackley; step-son, Rusty, eight grandchildren: Shayna, Montana, James (Cheyenne), Jessica, Zachary (Valerie), Larry, Samantha (Jeremy), and Aaron; 11 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Sharon Handl, Orville (Pat) Mitcheltree, Sue (Dean) Hagenow, and Mary Mitcheltree; her constant canine companion, Ty; further survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, grandson, Charles, step-son, Tony Johnston, brother-in-law, Jerry Handl, and nephews, Dean Hagenow Jr and Kevin Mitchel.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Hope Community Church,4408 County Rd B, Manitowoc with friends and family visiting from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm and a service taking place at 12:00pm.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to HFM Hospice and Pastor Jed Manders for all their wonderful care, compassion, and comfort that was given to Cindy and the family.
