Curtiss John "Curt" Thelen, age 78, a lifelong resident of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Jack & Engrid Meng Residence. He was born May 24, 1943 in Green Bay, son of the late Clayton and Grace (Kahl) Thelen and was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1961.
Curt made his home for the last 21 years with his childhood crush, Lyn Matzke. During a neighborhood game of "Kick the Can," Lyn shared her first kiss with Curt at the age of 13.
Curt's greatest passion was the game of golf. If he was not talking about golf, he was watching it or playing it. He was a member of Wandering Spring Golf Course where he forged many friendships with fellow golfers and had 2 holes in 1! He also enjoyed cheering on the Duke Men's Basketball Team. Curt was a devoted partner, proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a giant smile that lit up the room!
Curtiss is survived by his 4 sons: Todd (Lynn), Chris (Mary), Rob (Tonia Schultz) and Clay (Jennifer) Thelen; grandchildren: Justen (Anne) and Cameron Thelen, Zachary (Jenna), Samuel and Gracelyn (fiancée, Luke Wendricks) Thelen, Alexis Thelen, Kaitlyn (Kevin) Schultze and Melinda Sinkler and Bryton Walsh, Raelyn and Martha Thelen and his partner of 21 years; Lyn Matzke, her children: Joe, Michael, Mark and Molly and her 10 grandchildren and together they have 9 great-grandchildren with one on the way! He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Jan Thelen and Linda Talmon and 2 nieces, Heather and Stacey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Phil and Jim Thelen and a grandson, Ryan Rockstroh.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at The Woods Golf Course (530 Erie Rd., Green Bay), Monday, October 4, 2021 from 3 to 5 PM. A sharing of memories will be held at 5 PM. Please come prepared to share your favorite story or memory of Curt!
