Cletus G. Schmitt, 91, of Green Bay, beloved husband of 68 year to Beverly (Goddard) Schmitt, passed away at home on Sunday, April 3, 2022.
Cletus was born on May 22, 1930 in Townsend, WI son of the late Clarence and Agnes (Brown) Schmitt. He was a graduate of Wabeno High School Class of 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He served from 1949 - 1951 until his honorable discharge. He married Bev on October 31, 1953 at St. Joseph's Church in Green Bay. Together they raised their family of eight. He was employed for over 25 at G.B.M.S.D. for the City of Green Bay. He was also an auto mechanic for most of his life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and camping. In his spare time he volunteered for the American Red Cross. Cletus also had a real sweet tooth and enjoyed eating anything sweet in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife Bev and five children: Mary Baumgart, Paul (Marie) Schmitt, Joe Schmitt (Jackie Super), Pat (Pattie) Schmitt, and Tom (Kelly) Schmitt. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Cletus also leaves a sister, Althea (Robert) Jakabowski, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Cletus is preceded in death by three children: Ruth Schmitt, Beth LaCount, and Michael Schmitt, along with two sisters, Sr. Claudia Schmitt, and Carol Koenig, and a grandson, Bradley Schmitt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11th from 9 AM - 11 AM at St. Jude Parish in Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM with full military honors. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park Mausoleum.
