Clarence Matuszek, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, December 4, 2022, due to complications from a recent fall. He was born on June 29, 1933 in Michigan, the son of the late Walter and Stella (Kubinska) Matuszek.
At age 17, with the permission of his parents, Clarence enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served our country from 1950-1954. On February 12, 1955, he married the girl next door, Anna Lou Engeldinger at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Milwaukee; they were blessed with six children and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He began his career in municipal government as the administrative assistant for the city of Milwaukee. In 1968 he accepted a position as the first Town Administrator in Wisconsin, for the Town of Allouez. During his tenure, Clarence was instrumental in the development of Green Isle Park, the Centennial celebration of Allouez in 1973, the formation of the fire department, and he was most proud of his role in the incorporation of Allouez into a village. Clarence was a past member of the Wisconsin City Manager Association, the International City Management Association, the Wisconsin Suburban League, and he was a commissioner for the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewage District. After his retirement in 1992, Clarence continued serving the Allouez community as a Village Trustee, and even until recently he continued to attend the Village Board Meetings.
Clarence hosted the Air Force reunion of the AC&W Squadron 603 "Logroll" twice in Green Bay. He was a founding member of the Allouez Village Band in which he played the baritone for 31 years. He was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Parish. Once retired, Clarence and Anna Lou enjoyed traveling and connected with his extended family in Poland. He was an avid card player, his favorites were Texas Hold'em and Cribbage. A true history buff, Clarence enjoyed watching the History Channel, especially episodes about WWI and WWII. He was a life-long fan of the Packers and all Wisconsin sports teams.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Lou, five children: Rosanne (George) Van Cura, David (Lori) Matuszek, Daniel (Kerry) Matuszek, Paul Matuszek, and Christine (Scott) Kugler; eight grandchildren: FayeAnne Matuszek, Brianna (Matt) Emmer, Brittany Matuszek, Adam Matuszek, Kaitlyn Kugler, Madi Kugler, Jason LaLuzerne, and Jessica LaLuzerne; three great-grandchildren: Jazi (Alex) Phillips, Gavin, and Adi; and one-great-great-grandson, Bentley; he is further survived by nieces, nephews, his cat, JB, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Stephen, and seven siblings: Florence, Adolf, Valentine, Stella, Alice, Wanda, and Charlotte.
Friends and family may visit at St. Matthew Catholic Parish, 130 St Matthews St, Green Bay, on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm with Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm; Military Honors to follow. Private entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
