Charles H. Dettman, Jr., passed away on Aug. 24, 2014, at the Post Acute Medical Hospital in Milwaukee following a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on July 1, 1952 in Menominee, MI, the first child of Barbara and Charles Dettman. He graduated from Marinette High School in 1970 and UW-Parkside in 1975 where he was a star athlete in cross country, long distance running, and the steeplechase. His passion for running continued for his entire life, and he won hundreds of competitive events.
On Oct. 19, 1973, he married Diane Berry, his college sweetheart, in Kenosha. They currently reside in Greenfield, WI.
Throughout his life, Chuck had many professional interests and was a teacher, entrepreneur, licensed real estate Broker, and home builder. He founded Country Meadows Mobile Home Center and Realty, Dettman Construction Company, the Country Store, and South Shore Properties. He excelled at these ventures and won numerous industry awards.
In 1996 and 1998, Chuck ran for Congress in the 8th District. He attended law school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Chuck loved his family, and had a strong, unshakeable faith in Jesus. Even when facing a terminal illness, he believed that God's hand was on him and that illness presented him with an opportunity to share his faith. He always gave to those who asked, and was known for his spirit of generosity.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Diane; their two sons, Isaac (Andrea) of Los Angeles, CA, and Elisha, PhD, of Houston, TX; parents, Barbara and Charles Dettman of Green Bay; two sisters, Jewele (his "Frog") (Thomas) Maki of Oneida, and Tina (Steve) Bielefeldt of Green Bay; brother, Rick (Lynn) Dettman of Green Bay; brother-in-law, Tim (Roseanne) Berry of Kenosha; sister-in-law, Barbara Berry of Kenosha; Uncle, Chester (Ellen) Nygren of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents-in-law, Woodrow and Daisy Berry, Aunts and Uncles, and his cousin Carl Nygren.
