Charles Baker

SFC Charles "Up Chuck" Baker, 81, of Green Bay, beloved husband of the late Jean (Butterfield) Baker, departed this life on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital peacefully in his sleep.

Chuck was born on September 14, 1937 in California son of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Thompson) Baker. At age 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Military Policeman and in Heavy Equipment Transportation. While in the Army he served two tours in Vietnam. He retired from active duty after 20 years of dedicated service to his Country. After being discharged he relocated to Green Bay with his family. He then worked as a Correctional Officer for the State of Wisconsin until his retirement.

He enjoyed spending summers at his place on Berry Lake. He was a very active and involved father, and enjoyed attending his kid's sporting events with his wife. On Saturday's when he was able he enjoyed playing BINGO or Let It Ride at Oneida. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his two children: Kevin (Andrea) Baker, and Charlene (Michael) Prokosch. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, and Nolan Prokosch, and Dalton Baker, along with a brother, Rodger (Kathryn) Baker and a sister, Rhonda Barnett. Chuck leaves his sisters-in-law: Joan King, Mary Jo Gellin, Charlotte Butterfield and Sandra Butterfield, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Chuck is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mildred Butterfield, sister-in-law, Lois Lardinois and two brothers-in-law: Jim Butterfield and Dick Gellin.

A gathering celebrating Chuck's life will be held on Tuesday, December 11th from 4 PM - 7 PM at Newcomer - Green Bay Chapel, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay. At Chuck's request "keep it casual" and come as you are. A short service will follow at 7 PM followed by Full Military Honors. Interment will be in King Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the D.A.V. or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Chuck's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude the staff of St. Vincent Hospital, Joan King, Michele and Jeff Doxtator, Julie Clark, Sarah Gallagher, and all of his friends up at Berry lake for the care and concern given to Chuck.
