Catherine Murphy Everson, age 87, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 19, 2022. She was born June 30, 1934 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Thomas Crane and Mary (Egan) Murphy and was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Class of 1952. She continued her education at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, Terra Haute, IN, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Catherine received her Master's Degree in Education from Lesley University.
Catherine married her high school sweetheart, Stephen Everson, January 4, 1958 at St. John the Evangelist Parish, Green Bay. They shared 39 blessed years of marriage before Steve passed away in 1997. Catherine was a long time elementary education teacher. She primarily taught at Anne Sullivan School in Green Bay, but also taught at various other schools in Nebraska and Wisconsin. She was a beloved and gifted teacher, forming incredible and lasting bonds with her students and co-workers.
Catherine's family fondly describes her using one word--kind. Her door was always open to family and friends. Wherever there was a need, she was there. She was a woman of very strong faith and an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, serving on the parish council and school board, laundering altar linens and distributing communion. If the church called for service, Catherine was ready to answer. She was also an avid advocate for St. John's Homeless Shelter. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Genevieve "Genny" (David) Freier; 2 grandchildren, Stephen (Jamie) Freier and Elizabeth Freier; 2 great-grandsons, Henry and Charles Freier; her sister, Mary "Mimi" Ariens; a brother, Joseph Murphy and sister-in-law, Audrey Murphy. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Stephen; sister, Margaret Murphy; a brother, Thomas Murphy; brother-in-law, Michael Ariens; sister-in-law, Kathryn Murphy and nephew, Paul Ariens.
