Bonnie Delahaut

August 9, 1937 — January 4, 2025

Sturgeon Bay

Bonita “Bonnie” (Hermsen) Delahaut, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with her family by her side. Bonnie was born on August 9, 1937 to the late Louis & Bernice Hermsen. She spent her childhood in West DePere and graduated from Nicolet High School.

Always a lover of travel and adventure Bonnie moved to Kansas City, after high school, to attend flight school. Bonnie started a 10 year career, as a flight attendant and eventual supervisor, with North Central Airlines based in Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis. Always one to like to be in control Bonnie earned her pilot’s license so she would know how to land the plane in an emergency. She was one of the few women, during that time, that could fly a plane.

When a layover in Green Bay coincided with a Green Bay Packers game, life long Packer fan, Bonnie and a fellow flight attendant went searching for tickets. She found two and was shocked to get to her seat and realize the tickets she had purchased were right next to her High School Sweetheart, Dave Delahaut. The rest is history. Bonnie and Dave married on June 6, 1964, in Minneapolis, MN. They settled in Green Bay, WI where Dave was running Beer Inc. and they raised their three children. Family meant everything to Bonnie and she relished her job as a mother from Room Mother to Field Trip Chaperone, birthday party planner extraordinaire and chauffeur and cheerleader to her kids many sports and activities.

As her children grew up, Bonnie took on another role as business owner when she and Dave purchased Baskin Robbins East and then started a career with Associated Bank working up the ranks until her retirement in 2000.

Ready for a new adventure, Bonnie and Dave moved to Sun Lakes, AZ. They made many new friends and their Halloween, Christmas, and Super Bowl parties were the talk of their golf cart community. Bonnie loved the warm weather, sun, and year round golfing. As Dave’s health declined they moved back home to Green Bay. There Bonnie became Dave’s caregiver for the next eleven years. Bonnie was always one to put everyone else first. Unfortunately, sometimes neglecting her own health. Bonnie and Dave celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2018. Bonnie was diagnosed with dementia shortly after. In the early years of Bonnie’s diagnosis, she was able to move near Holly, in Illinois, and make a visit to Connecticut to see Tracee and family. She attended the grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts and dance recitals. She enjoyed Girls Trips to Door County. Minneapolis, and Chicago. Bonnie spent her last years in Door County, WI.

Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Holly (Todd) Butenhoff, Door County, WI and Tracee (Jason) Farkas, Farmington, CT; her grandchildren: Tyler (Kaitlin Potenza) Butenhoff, Janesville, WI, Cody Butenhoff, DesMoines, IA, Kylie Delahaut, Algoma, WI, Jaxon & Grayson Farkas, Farmington, CT. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Delahaut; son, Bradley Delahaut; parents, Louis & Bernice Hermsen and in-laws, Ruben & Florence Delahaut.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 11 to 11:30 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Chapel Mausoleum.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Unity Hospice and the staff at Bayview Senior Care. In lieu of flowers the family would invite friends to make a donation, in Bonnie’s name to: 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s-Door County Wisconsin, 620 South 76th Street, Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
