Beverly Jean Schroeder (Mrs. Walter R.) age 97, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Rennes Health Center, Appleton, WI. She was born December 31, 1915 in Superior, Wisconsin to the late Brent Martin Berg and Ruth Coleman Berg.
She attended Superior Central High School and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Superior. Beverly continued her studies in Remedial Reading at the graduate level at the University of California, Los Angeles, CA.
She married Walter R. Schroeder on June 26, 1939 in the First Methodist Church in Superior, Wisconsin.
Beverly taught Art and the elementary grades in the Green Bay Schools for many years. She was a longtime member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin where she was a deaconess and a member of the Priscillas. She was a member of the Green Bay and DePere Antiquarian Societies, the Embroiders Guild of America, the Green Bay and DePere Abby Belles Garden Club, the Evangeline Bergstrom chapter of Paperweight Collectors, Neenah, Wisconsin, the Woman's Club of DePere, the Wednesday Night Square Dance Club, and in later years she was a member of the Allouez Beautification Project.
She enjoyed winters in Venice, Florida with Wally, painting and working in pastel. She travelled around the world and enjoyed studying the culture, geography and history of the countries she visited.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Schroeder, and son James R. Schroeder.
Beverly is survived by two children and their spouses: Beverly Jean and Carl McFarland, West Chicago, Illinois, and Gloria and David Marske of Appleton, WI as well as a daughter-in-law, Diane Schroeder, wife of her son James Schroeder, her sister, Gloria Winship of Carlsbad, California. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Cathy Lee Barbaccia, Carl McFarland Jr., and Craig McFarland, Candice Schroeder Lange, Scott Schroeder, and William, James, and Adam Marske and eight great-grandchildren, Christina and Nicolas Barbaccia, Corey and Ashley Lange, Zachary and Joshua Mc Farland, Jillian and Natalie Marske, and nieces and nephews that she was very close to and visited often.
Beverly's family and friends will sadly miss her. She had such a wonderful zest for life and continued learning. She was an inspiration to all of us and a joy to be around. She taught us to appreciate nature, art, and see the beauty in all things. She inspired us to reach beyond ourselves, work hard, and learn something new every day.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 991 Pilgrim Way, Green Bay
