Bertha "Bert" Matsen, 76, Green Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Monday, November 5, 2012. She was born January 20, 1936, in Ironwood, MI, to the late Nante and Femia (Piilola). On September 11, 1954 Bert married Clifford Matsen in Ironwood. They celebrated 24 years together before Cliff passed on May 2, 1979.
Bert attended schools in Ironwood and received her CNA degree at NWTI, Green Bay. She was employed at H.C. Prange Company and Upjohn Healthcare. Bert was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son, Steve Matsen, St. Charles, IL; daughter, Becky (Kevin) Bernard, Las Vegas, NV; 4 grandchildren: Kurt (partner, Kim Nelson) Matsen, Tammi (Kurt) Kitzman, Sean (Stephanie) Bowers, and Stefanie Woodruff; step-granchildren, Kevin Jr., Kaylyn, and Kyle Bernard; 4 great-grandchildren, McKenna, Mitchell, Ariella, and Shayleigh; sister, Martha (Dave) Rowe; and 2 brothers, Albert and Eino Piilola.
Bert was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; her parents; 1 brother; and 3 sisters.
Family and friends may call TODAY, November 7, 2012, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave., Green Bay, from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am with Rev. Peter Speckhard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
