Bernie Leiterman, age 74, of Greenleaf, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 27, 1947 in Green Bay, son of the late Henry and Mathilda (Linsmeyer) Leiterman and was a graduate of Denmark High School, Class of 1965.
Shortly after graduating from High School, Bernie was drafted by the US Army to serve during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the military, Bernie began a career in carpentry which spanned 45 years. He married Shirley Pansier, October 1, 1971 and the couple shared almost 50 years of marriage and were blessed with 6 children.
Bernie loved his polka music, shaking dice with the boys and enjoying a beer.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children: Dennis (Amy) Leiterman, Brian (Terry Jo) Leiterman, Amy (Curt) Van Den Elsen, Keith (special friend, Debbie) Leiterman and Kevin (Amber) Leiterman; 12 grandchildren: Isaac, Matthew, Emma, Simon, Sarah, Grant, Trent, Ruby, Paige, Allie, Mason and Clark; 3 sisters: Cindy Halbrook, Karen and Kathy Leiterman; sisters-in-law, Valerie Leiterman and Rochelle Olp; Shirley's siblings: Karen Lawrence, Janet (Milt) Fonferek, Joyce (Jim) Pouwels, Roy (Joan) Pansier, Glen (Jane) Pansier and Charlet (Rick) Kozlovsky.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Leiterman; 3 brothers: John, Norbert and Jim Leiterman and 4 brothers-in-law: Dave Guns, Mike Titluaer, Larry Lawrence and Randall Halbrook.
Visitation will be held at St. Clare Parish-Greenleaf site (2218 Day St., Greenleaf, WI), Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 8 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, with Fr. Brian Wideman, celebrant and Fr. Bill O'Brien, con-celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
