Bernice Theresa DeBroux, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Rebekah Haven assisted living.
She was born June 12, 1928 to the late Peter and Mary (Matzke) Stein in Glenmore. On October 12, 1946 she married Arnold DeBroux at St. Phillips Church in Green Bay.
Bernice was a long time Allouez resident and member of St. Matthew's Parish. She enjoyed her trailer at Shawano Lake for many years. She loved to play cards, especially sheep head and cribbage. She also enjoyed bus trips to the casino and lunches with her retired co-workers. Bernice retired from St. Vincent's Hospital after 30 plus years. Once she was confined to her home she still loved her weekly hair appointments.
Ma Brown is survived by her daughters: Jeanne (Bernie) VerHaagh, Mary VerHaagh, Connie (Becky) DeBroux and Janice Besaw (friend Al), son Rick DeBroux and daughter-in-law Carol DeBroux; Grandchildren, Steve (Katie) VerHaagh, Todd (Jodi) VerHaagh, Glenn VerHaagh (friend Austin), Cassie (Sean) Thuerwachter; great-grandchildren Julia, Jessalyn, Brady, and Bryce VerHaagh, London Thuerwachter; and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Rachel and Angel. She is also survived by 2 godchildren, Ellie Stachurski and Sharon DeGrave. A very special family friend Maggie (Carol Birr).
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold on December 23, 1964; son, John on February 10, 2016; grandson, Scott VerHaagh on July 17, 2003; and son-in-law, George VerHaagh on July 22, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer & Ceil Stein, Bernard & Gen Stein, Norbert & Gen Stein, Melvin & Helen Stein, Joe & Ruth Stein and Leo Stein; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine & Leonard Wysocki and Evelyn & Wilfred Brilliant; and godchild, Ron Stein; and many nieces & nephews.
Friends and family may visit from 8:30 am until 10:45 am on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew Street, Allouez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Robert Kabat officiating. Burial will be at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Rebekah Haven, especially Lisa, Patty, Joey, Francis, Val, Tricia, Renee, Joslyn, Kayla, Sherri and Lilly.
