Bernard "Bernie" H. Lamal, 81, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
He was born on October 23, 1931 in Green Bay to the late Fred & Anna (Watermolen) Lamal.
Bernie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married Mary Young on September 11, 1954, at St. Phillips Church in Green Bay; she preceded him in death on September 30, 1993. Bernie made his home in Green Bay until his retirement when he moved to the Chute Pond area.
Bernie was employed by the City of Green Bay on the street department for over 40 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Winiecki Post 9677. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling, golfing with his buddies, he loved watching the Packers and other sports, playing cards, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 20, 2013, Bernie had the privilege of going on Flight 18 of the Old Glory Honor Flight, and was honored by the crowd that greeted him on his return.
Survivors include three children, Cindy (Bob) Bomski, Keith (Kathy) Lamal and Brian (Ginger) Lamal; seven grandchildren, Jason Bomski & Beth Goral, Troy (Rebecca) Bomski, Eric Lamal and fiancé Vanessa Anthony, Amanda Lamal and special friend Wyatt Clark, Lisa (Brian) Schomaker, Amanda (Ken) Massey, and Tyler DeSalva; great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Ava, Joey, Mady, Beau, Layla, Owen, and Trent; two sisters, Leona (Joe) Marcelle and Delores Ronsman; in-laws, Elaine Smeester, Dorothy Hare, Bob & Mary Young, Dick & Elaine Young, and Sharon & Terry Burke.
He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Marie; siblings, Ray (Rosella) Lamal, Clarence (Red) Lamal, Florence (Lee) Blajeski, Lucille (Clifford) Phillips, and Helen (Richard) Phillips; in-laws, Norbert Young & Myrtle Young, Merrill "Bud" Ronsman, Wayne (Pat) Young, and Don Smeester.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, September 20, 2013, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd., Green Bay, with a parish prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the church from 10:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday at the church with Rev. Ralph Merkatoris officiating. Entombment will be at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bishop's Court and Heartland Hospice for their care of Bernie, and also the many friends and relatives that continued to visit during his stay at Bishop's Court.
