Beatrice Phyllis "Bea" Moens, age 87, of Green Bay, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Thursday, April 7, 2022, while surrounded by the love of her family. She was born at home during a snowstorm in Pine Grove, WI, February 22, 1935, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Kowalczyk) Mikulsky. Bea grew up on her family farm with her brother and 4 sisters, with whom she remained very close her entire life. She embraced the rural and domestic life, becoming a very talented gardener, cook and baker, particularly her homemade pies (with crust from scratch). She enjoyed making fruitcake and cut-out Christmas cookies for her family.
Bea was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1953 and attended several of her class reunions throughout the years. While attending East High, Bea met her sweetheart, Larry, at a Thanksgiving dance at the Blue Stone Dance Hall. After graduation, Bea enjoyed a few years as a bachelorette, residing in downtown Green Bay with her sister, Marjorie. Everything she needed was within walking distance. Bea and Larry were married on a rainy day at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, September 15, 1956. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with 5 children.
Bea's faith was very prominent in her upbringing and throughout her adult life. Her devotion to the Catholic Church was inspiring. She was an active member of the Ladies Altar Society and also taught 2nd grade religious education and served as a greeter. Her family remembers her as a prayerful woman, committed to weekly prayer at SS. Peter & Paul Parish Adoration Chapel. When quarantine and illness kept Bea from praying at church, she remained faithful through home participation in televised Mass with Bishop David Ricken and Bible study devotion with family.
Bea was committed to serving her community through her work as Chief Inspector at the polls for 43 years. She enjoyed serving as a caregiver for 50 years, first to children and later as a home health aide and housekeeper to elderly people, all of whom became her close friends.
She will be fondly remembered as a woman of strong faith, a devoted wife, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Beatrice is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence "Larry" Moens; 4 children: Susan (Dr. Luke) Warpinski, Gregory Moens, Catherine Moens and Andrew (Donna) Moens; 7 grandchildren: Amy (Tyler) Peters, Cynthia (Chad) LaLuzerne, Sarah (Joshua) Ladd, Jennifer (Greg) Van Den Elzen, Mary (Eric) DeKorne, Steven Moens and Lisa Nunnally; 12 great-grandchildren (and 2 on the way!): Lauren, Hannah, Michael, Jacob, Coraline, Ellie, Maya, Jackson, Ben, Noah, Kenneth and Melanie; her sister, Arlene Hasseler and a son-in-law, Tom Farrell. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Farrell; her brother, Richard (Jean) Mikulsky; her sisters: Marion (Fred) Pirozzoli, Marjorie (Bob) Wallenfang and Theresa (Peter) Maldonado; brother-in-law, Jim Hasseler; father and mother-in-law, Louis and Evelyn Moens and sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Melvin) DeBeck and Elizabeth (Bob) Bertrand.
Visitation will be held at SS. Peter & Paul Parish (710 N. Baird St., Green Bay, WI), Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM with Fr. Jose Lopez, celebrant. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Chapel Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Maryknoll in Bea's name are appreciated.
The family wishes to send special thanks and prayers to Haylee, Toddy and the team at Edenbrook Senior Care.
