Barbara Anne Dettman of Oneida passed away at home on Tue., March 29 surrounded by her family. A fighter until the end, she courageously battled pulmonary fibrosis without a complaint.
She was born in Stanley, Wis. on Aug. 4, 1933 to Chester and Louisa Nygren. The family lived in Chicago before moving to Marinette when she was a teenager. There she met her husband, Charles Dettman, and after graduation, they would marry and begin a wonderful journey in life. They had recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. Their love for one another never waned; they were a true love story.
While living in Marinette, they raised four children and ran a successful construction and development company. Later, they relocated to the Green Bay area and divided time between a home here and one in Naples, Fl. where they had many friends and great memories.
Even while suffering, Barbara was a beautiful woman who exemplified grace through it all. She loved the Catholic Church and spent hours reading about Jesus and asked to be buried with the book, "Jesus Calling."
She is survived by her husband, Charles; three children, Jewele Maki (Tom), Tina Bielefeldt (Steve), Rick Dettman (Lynn); a brother, Chester Nygren (Ellen); 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, and many other friends and family. A son, Charles Dettman Jr., preceded her in death.
A private service will be celebrated on Monday with Deacon Nick Williams of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howard officiating, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
