He was born on May 31, 1924 in Chicago, IL. At the age of 19 Art was inducted into the US Army serving in WWII, stationed in Louisiana as a MP guarding German prisoners of war and then a tank driver in the Philippines. Art was proud of his service to our country. He was a life-long member of the American Legion and was past commander of the American Legion Post 71, in Pewaukee, from 1974-1975.
On July 14, 1951, Art married Lill, at St. John's Riverside Lutheran Church in Gillett, WI.
If anyone knew paint, it was Art. He worked as a salesman for the Lowe Brothers, Pittsburg, Devoe, Esser, Mautz, Hoffer and Coronado paints, which moved his family to a few different towns. In 1960 he lived 4 blocks away from Lambeau field, a Packer lover's dream. Lombardi was the king and Art was a season ticket holder. The next move was to Pewaukee Lake where his hobbies were golf, fishing, having a beer and telling tall stories about the minnow and the musky. Art loved to play Santa for the neighborhood families and could not resist getting dressed up as a woman for Halloween. At 6'2 and 260 lbs in a dress, he was quite a sight to behold.
Friends may call from 9:00am until 11:00am on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at St. John's Riverside Lutheran Church, 5686 State Highway 32 S, Gillett, WI. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, at the church with Rev. Richard R. Buhrke officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at St. John's Riverside cemetery.
