Andrew John Alsteen

December 1, 2021 — December 1, 2021

Andrew John Alsteen was called into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, on his 21st birthday. He was born December 1, 2000, to Edward and Peggy (Shimon) Alsteen.

His childhood years were happy and filled with love. Andrew had an infectious giggle and loved to make others laugh. He would light up a room and impress adults with his quick wit, charm and ease at talking with everyone. He soaked up knowledge and anything on his interest radar was sure to be memorized like the names and facts of every dinosaur, bug and beetle. He enjoyed reading books, playing outside in the woods, and constantly requested to play "sneak" and other yard games. He loved art projects, experiments and creating magic potions. He reveled in using his creativity to build, and constructed everything put in front of him, especially Legos. He would giggle with delight at every chance to "wrassle" or play tickle monster with Dad, and he cherished time helping him with projects, particularly those that involved riding the 4-wheeler or lawn tractor. With his mom he loved snuggling, reading and playing games while jamming tunes and learning the words to songs from all genres & decades. He cherished time with sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved with all his heart. He loved dreaming about being a doctor and dressed up like one often while treating our ailments. He relished family vacations to places like Manitowish Waters fishing for bluegills, Disney World, Branson, Chicago, Mt Rushmore and Deadwood. He rode horseback through the Monument Valley, went on an alpaca trek in Taos, chilled in Cabo San Lucas and hunted elk in the Rocky Mountains to name just a few. He requested to stay at places with water parks, roller coasters, swimming pools and science museums. He explored his world to find passions. He tried soccer, baseball, swim team, Boy Scouts, robotics, forensics, drama & film club, playing guitar and piano, and joined singing groups. He was particularly passionate about acting in movies with a group of friends who shared that passion. They even had a showing of their most recent movie on the big screen. He was proud of that. Not everything he joined was long lived because he always looked for the next adventure. He attended school in Suamico where he went on to graduate near the top of his class from Bay Port in 2019. Andrew then fulfilled his dream of becoming a Badger and headed off to UW-Madison where he was currently a junior studying psychology with the goal of attending grad school to become a psychologist. He felt his calling was to help other people struggling with anxiety and depression. As a young adult Andrew enjoyed trips, campouts, singing or playing name that tune around a campfire, video and board games, movies and Netflix and family card games like Sheepshead and Couillon. He attended many live concerts and loved our annual trip to Summerfest. Singing and acting were a huge part of his life and he had many featured roles in plays and musicals. He performed in Bayport's Vocal Ensemble and even shared his beautiful voice with patients he cared for while working as a CNA. He loved working with the elderly and advocated for their dignity. "Andrew the singing CNA" liked creating special bonds at the nursing home so he could brighten days. He also was involved at church serving as an altar boy and lector. Andrew was a smart, funny, talented and caring person. He wanted to be loved and more understood. His wish to donate his organs to help save others was his final gift to this world. He was the most wonderful son that any parent could ever ask for. His life here was not as long as we wanted, but he made an indelible stamp that will never be forgotten. He lives on in our hearts and memories and in those whom he gifted to of himself.

Andrew is lovingly remembered by his parents, Edward and Peggy; sisters: Jamie (Travis) Annoye, Casey (John) DeGrand, Heidi (Kevin) Henry, Holly (Danny) Mullin; grandparents, John and Thalia Shimon; aunts and uncles: Ronnie (Tina) Alsteen, Bev Zellner, Betty Jane Michiels, Diane (Gary) Jonet, Marlene (Jerry) Treml, Patricia (David) Novak, Joanne (Brent) Weycker, Daniel Shimon, Van (Brandi) Nguyen; nieces/nephews: Dylan and Cailey Annoye, Tyler and Payton DeGrand, Chase and Miles Mullin, and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and Irene Alsteen; uncles: Larry Alsteen, Donnie Michiels and Ronnie Zellner; and his special cousin, Aislinn Shimon.
