Amy Sehring

September 29, 1959 — March 13, 2021

Amy Safford Sehring, 61, passed away peacefully at her Green Bay home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 13, 2021. She was born September 29, 1959, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Noel Ross Safford and the late Rosalie Byers Safford. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1978. She attended St. Norbert College as a vocal performance major, where she was involved in musical theatre and swing choir. She transferred to UW-Madison and became a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Ultimately, she joined her fiancée Stephen Sehring in Milwaukee, and, in 1985, she graduated with a degree in Economics from UW-Milwaukee.

On June 8th, 1985, Amy married her great love, Stephen Sehring, after his graduation from the Medical College of Wisconsin. The two then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for Stephen's residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology from 1985-1989. While in Atlanta, Amy began her career in the contract furniture business, taking a lead from her father, who for many years worked at KI. In 1989, she and Stephen returned to their hometown of Green Bay, where they have remained ever since. In 1991, they welcomed their eldest daughter Reagan, followed by Jacqueline in 1993. They finally completed their family with the birth of Frederick ("Fritz") in 2001. Amy often remarked how much joy her children brought to her and how motherhood was one of the most important chapters of her life.

While in Green Bay, Amy continued her work in contract furniture, working with the Knoll Group. She worked very closely with the Beilkes at Systems Furniture. Additionally, she worked for many years as a Carlisle fashion consultant, selling women's ready-to-wear clothing. She frequently said that she took great joy in helping women feel good about themselves, finding the perfect outfit that made them feel beautiful. She received many professional and sales awards in both careers.

Amy was very active in the community. She was often the first to volunteer. Her list of contributions to the Green Bay community is too long to list here. Some notable accomplishments include her many year involvement with the Service League of Green Bay, culminating in her role as president. She participated in Dancing with Our Stars, which combined her love of dance with support for the Red Cross. While she didn't win the mirror ball, she dazzled us with her quickstep. Amy served on the Board of the North East Wisconsin Dance Organization (NEWDO), where she was instrumental in bringing the annual Nutcracker Ballet to Green Bay. She was proud to help provide an opportunity for the youth of Green Bay to experience and participate in classical ballet. The thread running through all of her community advocacy was supporting and empowering the women and children of Green Bay, notably through her involvement with Encompass, House of Hope, and CASA of Green Bay. She was very active at her children's elementary school, Notre Dame of De Pere, where she served as the school board president. She continued that involvement at their high school, Notre Dame de la Baie Academy. Although she was a passionate member of many boards, fundraisers, and charities, her giving spirit was not confined to formal organization. In her to daily life, she never missed the opportunity to help someone in need, whether it was a stranger who needed money for the bus or a dear friend who needed a listening ear.

Amy made friends easily and often. Few things brought her more joy than to open her home to friends and family - the dining room laden with home-cooked food, a fire burning in the hearth, and the kitchen filled with laughter and conversation. She especially loved to take her turn hosting her Bible Study group on Mondays, where the ladies discussed the scripture and their families. She was remarkably well-read - usually reading more than one book at a time - and was a member of multiple book clubs. Her fun-loving spirit really shone at the Neighborly Dance Club, where she served as president for the 100th anniversary of the club. She was often the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. She was also a 30 year member of Oneida Golf & Country Club. One of the highlights of the holiday season was the Club's Oyster Bar.

Amy surrounded herself with beauty. She believed in gracious living - she lived a life characterized by elegance, comfort, and good taste. She had a keen gift for design, from architecture and interiors to fashion and florals. She spent countless hours needlepointing decor for her loved ones. She enjoyed attending the theatre and opera, but her heart belonged most of all to the ballet. With that said, she also was a sucker for a good slapstick comedy.

While Amy loved to travel the world with her husband, children, and friends, the place she loved most of all was her cottage on the water in Door County, WI.

We would like to thank our family and friends for their endless support, thoughts, and prayers as she fought a fight that she didn't deserve. Our family would also like to thank the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and 3-ICU at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. We would especially like to thank Dr. Dhimant Patel and Dr. James Napier for their expertise, compassion, and thoughtful counsel.

Amy is survived by her loving husband, Stephen, and her three children, Reagan (29), Jacqueline (27), and Fritz (19); father Noel Ross Safford, brother Ross Safford, and sisters Molly (Safford) Butler and Peggy (Safford) Boncher.
