While listening to great grandchildren reading Dr. Seuss, Alayne Parmentier decided it was time to go home and passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2019. Peer pressure was no longer a concern at the wonderful age of 98. She was born January 14, 1921 in Green Bay, daughter of the late William and Viola (Bandt) Bracher. She was a graduate of West High School; class of '38.
Alayne departed for California where she earned an Associate Degree in Interior Design from Marion Junior College. After returning to Green Bay, she married the love of her life, Joseph Parmentier in 1949. They shared 60 loving years of marriage until Joe passed away in the summer of 2009. They also raised three daughters, who married and blessed them with eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Along the way, Alayne was a woman of many interests. She was a voracious reader, a champion of every crossword puzzle ever encountered, a talented knitter and an accomplished bridge player. She enjoyed "a good walk spoiled", golfing at Shorewood and Northbrook Country Clubs for many years. Trips to Door County, activities involving her grandkids and of course the Packers and Brewers were must see events.
She was a volunteer throughout her life supporting Meals on Wheels, 4H, Girl Scouts, Norwood Elementary School PTO and St Joseph Elementary School library as a reader, to name a few. It can be said she could (and would) talk to anyone that would stop by for a visit. She possessed a welcoming smile, an open ear and a remarkable gift for conversation. Alayne was always willing to share a story or listen to yours and people came away richer for the encounter.
She is survived by her 3 daughters; Lexi (Mike) Nelsen, Coralee Parmentier-Greely (Mike Greely), Jolayne (Jerry) Ollmann. Grandchildren; Melissa (Kevin) Letto, Steven (Jamie) Nelsen, Lisa Greely (Jake Miller), Marcus Greely (Jackie Harms), Rachel (Baylee) Nelson, Jacob Ollmann (Rachel Scheffen), Nathan (Sara) Ollmann, Matt (Lauren) Ollmann…and the previously mentioned great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10 to 11:30 AM. A celebration of Alayne's life will follow at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery at a future date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Steven and Jamie Nelsen who graciously opened their home and granted grandma's final wish to pass in the company of family. In addition, many thanks to Unity Hospice, especially Chaplain Bob as well as Jane and Shelly, who lovingly helped in providing the necessary care in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Brown County Library – Southwest Branch or Unity Hospice in Alayne's name.
