Pastor Valiyaparambil Abraham Varghese was born on March 26, 1940 in the southernmost state of Kerala, India where Apostle Thomas came to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the first century A.D. His parents, the late Abraham (Kunjachan) and Aleyamma belong to Cheramperil House. Pastor V. A. Varghese remained a devout Christian and ardent witness for the Gospel of Christ until he went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2024.
Pastor V. A. Varghese married P. C. Marykutty from Poochakeril House, Vakathanam, Kottayam on June 9, 1968. He and his wife worked very hard to provide for the family and educate their children. He worked at HMT Kalamessery, India, retiring as transport manager. They were devout Christians who loved the Lord and raised their three children in the fear of God.
Pastor V. A. Varghese accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1978 and was baptized in 1992. He was committed to following Christ and was an active member of local churches in India and the United States. He and his wife generously gave to the church and showed hospitality to many humble servants of God who visited their home. He had a gift for evangelism, drawing many to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pastor V. A. Varghese immigrated to the United States in 1993 residing in Chicago, Illinois and later to Green Bay, Wisconsin. While in Chicago, he planted Zion Gospel Church in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

With a grateful heart we give thanks to the Lord for the life of Appa. “The Lord gave, the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21) Appa ran the race with faith and perseverance. As 1 Timothy 4:7 says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
