Sandra J Schleis

September 4, 1942 — December 31, 2023

Sandra J."Sandi" (Van Nelson) Schleis, 81, beloved wife, mother, and Nana, found everlasting peace in Heaven early Sunday morning, December 31, 2023. She was born in Green Bay, September 4, 1942, to the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Boulanger) Van Nelson. When Sandi was a teenager, she liked attending dances at Riverside Ballroom, which were popular in Green Bay during that time. It was here she first met, and was asked to dance by her future husband, "Bob" Robert Schleis, who described her as the most beautiful girl in the room; this was his sentiment for ever after. They were married on May 13, 1961, and were together for over 62 years.

Sandi preferred to do most things herself, and attended to the care of her family and the
majority of household tasks. She possessed exceptional spatial awareness skills; evident in her ability to visualize, organize, and problem-solve in a variety of daily life situations. She was also very artistic, creating and decorating holiday displays that were whimsical, joyful, and inspiring. She especially loved Christmas-her favorite time of the year.

Along with flowers and plants, Sandi was fond of animals. She greatly enjoyed feeding the
various wildlife that frequented her wooded backyard. Many of the birds and creatures came directly over to her when they heard her voice, much like the Disney character, "Snow White". She had a generous, kind heart, and sympathized with those who were disadvantaged or struggling. She donated to many non-profit charities, such as children's hospitals, and various animal organizations.

Sandi was an ever-present, doting, supportive "Nana" to her precious grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Her most cherished times were spent with loved ones playing board games/cards, sipping moscato, laughing, visiting, and listening to music. She also enjoyed going out to her favorite local restaurants, making sure to leave generous tips of gratitude to the serving attendants. Whenever she was out and about, people complimented her well-coiffed hair, which was always big and beautiful, as was her smile and laughter.

In addition to extended family and friends, Sandi will be greatly missed and remembered by her husband, Bob; her son, Scott Schleis; her daughter, Renée (Rob) Van Iten; her granddaughter, Alexa (Mark) Malinowski; and her grandson, Seth Van Iten. She will also be missed by family friend, Kyle Vanden Busch-whom she loved and thought of as another grandchild.

Heartfelt appreciation to Judy and Bill Streckenbach, Carol Schleis, Tom DePas, Donna Klinge and Andrea Brault, for their frequent calls, offers to help, and overall support; their kindness has been reassuring and comforting. Thank you to the 4th floor staff at Bellin Hospital, for the great care they gave to Sandi. Also, thank you to the staff at Green Bay Health Services for their help. Special thanks and gratitude to the nurses, CNA's, and staff at Unity Hospice/Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence, for the wonderful, compassionate, angel-like care they provided to Sandi and her family.

A private service was previously held. In lieu of a memorial fund, please make a donation to
your preferred non-profit charity.
